Thaipusam 2007: Fire

thaipusam 2007 - fire

This is yet another of my favourite images from Thaipusam 2007.

The scene is one that is common enough – somebody holds a plate containing some solid fuel that is burning or smoking and waves the plate around, around an altar as well as around other people participating in the prayer ritual.

By the way, what is that solid fuel? Is it incense, myrrh or something else? If anybody knows, please enlighten me by contacting me here.

Anyway, although the scene is a common one, all these years I have never been able to capture a good image of it because the plate of fire keeps moving about in unpredictable circles.

This year I was lucky.
I managed just one shot of this photograph of fire, and it came out almost perfect.

The original image was on the dark side, which has its merits as it lent a mysterious mood. But I lifted the shadows slightly to reveal a bit more of details, for example, of the lady's dress and the skin textures of the two persons, or rather, two sets of hands, in the picture.
