Thaipusam 2007: Indian boy

thaipusam 2007 - indian boy

This Indian boy at Thaipusam 2007 was one of several children who caught my attention.

I was actually about to leave the Hindu temple where the festival was held. The sun was getting hot and I felt I had enough of good pictures, especially considering the fact that I had practically no good pictures the year before, at Thaipusam 2006.

I decided to stay a while longer and was glad I did. I was rewarded with a series of great candid portraits – of both adults as well as children's portraits.

Initially, I did not pay too much attention to this boy as I felt the other children around him more interesting expressions on their faces.

What really made me focus my lens on him was, in fact, the bright colorful background. This happens quite often. The background is sometimes as important to the picture as the main subject.

And so I shot two of three pictures of this young Indian boy and managed to capture him in apparent deep thought.

And yes, the bright, colorful background does add a lot to this picture.

This same picture, if it was taken against a dull background, would probably not have worked.
