Here is another dark lotus flower that I like very much.

I used to have it on my name card and once, when I handed the card to a friend, he remarked, "Wah, so sensual".

As with the other dark lotus flower, this, too was a below average photograph transformed into something quite spectacular with just a bit of simple, Photoshop adjustments.

In this case, the original composition was better, except that I had a problem... my camera was faulty and the exposures had all overlapped (I wondered how come I could shoot up to about 40 exposures with one rolle of film).

Thus, one side of the picture could not be used, so I turned this into a square image.

The original version of the picture above, before Phostoshop adjustments, looked like this:

The lighting, exposure, color... were all ordinary. Moreover, it was shot with a roll of Fuji Sensia slide film, which does not give as rich colors as Fuji Provia or Fuji Velvia.

I had, however, already created a few rather nice flower photographs by simply darkening them, so I knew there was potential here. It proved remarkably simple, just two quick Photoshop adjustment -- go to Adjustments > Levels and move the right slider towards the left to brighten the highlights and move the middle slider towards the right to darken the overall image.

It's that simple.

This lotus flower photograph is available for sale. Larger prints come in very limited editions, but smaller 5R and 8R prints are made very affordable to encourage the collection of fine art photographs by those with limited budgets.

All prints, including the affordable 5R and 8R prints, are signed by me, Richard Seah.
